What is Somatics?
Somatics is a mind body approach to improve our health and well-being naturally. Somatic exercises stimulate the brain to change the out-put to the muscle. Everything we experience in our lives is a bodily experience, body and mind are one, addressing one directly affects the other.
During the course of ours lives, our Sensory-motor Systems continually respond to daily stresses and traumas with specific muscular reflexes. These reflexes, repeatedly triggered, create habitual muscular contractions, which we cannot voluntarily relax. The result is Stiffness, Soreness and a Restricted Range of Movement.
Stiffness and Restricted Range of Movement is a learned, adaptive response within the nervous system to injuries, trauma and stress. Because it is a learned response, it can be unlearned and reversed through a Somatic reprogramming of the Sensory-Motor system.
Somatic is easy instead of being hard and arduous. Easy lessons will guide a person through movements slowly and repeatedly, calling attention to various body parts and their relation to one another. These movements can help "reprogram" the brain, primarily the motor cortex, bringing about broader changes in one's body and sense of self.
